Saint Laurent

The Saint Laurent brand, originally known as Yves Saint Laurent, was founded by the French fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre Bergé. The brand has played a pivotal role in shaping modern fashion and is considered one of the most iconic and influential fashion houses in the world.

Yves Saint Laurent, born in Oran, Algeria, in 1936, entered the fashion scene at an early age. After winning the first prize in a prestigious design competition in 1953, he began working for Christian Dior. Following Dior's death in 1957, Saint Laurent became the creative director of the House of Dior at the age of 21, presenting his first collection for the label.

In 1961, Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé founded the Yves Saint Laurent label. The brand gained fame for its modern and groundbreaking designs, including the iconic tuxedo jacket for women, known as "Le Smoking," which revolutionized women's fashion.

Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Yves Saint Laurent continued to innovate, introducing ready-to-wear collections and expanding the brand's offerings. The YSL logo, featuring intertwined initials, became synonymous with luxury and elegance.

In the 1980s, Yves Saint Laurent faced financial challenges and health issues. In 1993, he announced his retirement from the fashion industry. The brand continued under various creative directors, including Tom Ford, Stefano Pilati, and Hedi Slimane.

In 2012, Hedi Slimane took over as creative director and rebranded the ready-to-wear line as Saint Laurent, dropping the Yves from the name. This move was met with mixed reactions but contributed to a rejuvenation of the brand. Anthony Vaccarello succeeded Slimane in 2016, continuing to build on the brand's legacy with a modern and edgy aesthetic.

Saint Laurent remains a symbol of French luxury and sophistication, celebrated for its timeless elegance and contributions to fashion history. Shop Saint Laurent clothing and accessories from today's top talent on TOP DRWR.
